The PPH Project is dedicated to tackling the global issue of postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity.
The End Postpartum Haemorrhage Initiative provided expert insight through participation in a NTV Fixing the Nation segment aired in March 2026, focusing on polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and its implications for women’s reproductive health. Representing the Initiative, Dr Kireki Omanwa, a Co-Lead at the initiative, explained that PCOS is a hormonal disorder associated with irregular ovulation, infertility, and metabolic complications such as insulin resistance and obesity. He noted that these conditions may increase the likelihood of pregnancy-related complications, including those that elevate the risk of postpartum haemorrhage. PCOS was therefore framed as part of a broader risk profile that can increase a woman’s vulnerability to adverse maternal outcomes. The discussion emphasized early diagnosis, preventive care, and integrated reproductive health services across the life course.
