The PPH Project is dedicated to tackling the global issue of postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity.
The End Postpartum Haemorrhage Initiative presented evidence on maternity care conditions during the International Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Conference held in Nairobi in March 2026. Representing the Initiative, Dr Eunice Atsali, a Co- Lead at the Initiative, highlighted how high temperatures and poorly ventilated maternity wards affect maternal wellbeing. She noted that dehydration, fatigue, and reduced physical resilience during labour can compromise uterine function and increase vulnerability to complications such as postpartum haemorrhage. The presentation emphasized that improving environmental conditions within health facilities is an important component of broader efforts to enhance maternal safety and reduce preventable maternal deaths.
