TRAINING MEDICS ON HOLISTIC APPROACH TO PREVENTION OF POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE: BEYOND THE CLINICAL LENS

Activity Description

PPH Foundation trained medics to adopt a holistic approach to management of PPH by considering, advocating and addressing socio-demographic factors like occupation, marital status, level of education, residence, religiosity, which continue to influence maternal survival and postpartum haemorrhage outcomes during the inaugural PPH School held on 29 May 2026. Led by Prof Julius Ogeng’o, the discussion explored how poverty, delayed health-seeking behaviour, harmful cultural beliefs, limited access to healthcare services, and health system barriers can contribute to preventable maternal deaths. Participants were encouraged to look beyond clinical management and appreciate the broader social and community factors that affect timely access to care. The session highlighted the importance of community engagement, awareness creation, and multi-sectoral approaches in efforts to prevent postpartum haemorrhage and improve maternal outcomes
